None of the work we do would be possible without the input of some expert volunteers. We only recruit international volunteers where we are unable to fill the vacancy locally in Malawi; we do not aim to take away Malawian jobs. In fact all of our volunteers work to build the capacity of their Malawian colleagues and team through mentoring and support.

Children’s Centre Manager
Start Date: Spring 2012
Duration: Minimum 6 months
We urgently seek an early years manager with a strong background in shaping multi-agency and outreach services. You’ll work as part of a hardworking team to make sure every service a young child in Malawi needs is available in the new children’s centre. |
Quantity Surveyor
Start Date: As soon as possible
Duration: minimum 6 months
We seek an experienced qualified Quantity Surveyor to become a vital part of our construction management team. You’ll help put in place and then run the whole cycle of estimating, purchasing and surveying including the control of variations, within our busy community building projects. |
Enterprise Manager
Start Date: as soon as possible
Duration: 6 months
You’ll be a capable manager with experience of growing and leading small enterprises. You’ll also help us to develop BeeBiz, a new area of business incubation/ start up units |
Childcare Manager
Start Date: January 2012
Duration: 6 months
The doors of our brand new childcare setting within the children’s centre open in January 2012. We seek an experienced, capable and passionate childcare manager to supervise this large 250 place setting. Overseeing UK standards with a newly trained team of workers, you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference to hundreds of young children. |
Clerk of Works
Start Date: as soon as possible
Duration: minimum 6 months
We seek an experienced qualified Clerk of Works to become a vital part of our construction management team. You’ll be able to: Check compliance with drawn details,
monitor the Hydraform production for quality,
Make suggestions on “buildability” to the designers. |
Plant Manager
Start date- January 2012
Duration- 6 months
You’ll be passionate about everything to do with HGV’s and Heavy Plant (mainly JCB) and build on the work of the previous brilliant volunteer. You’ll have expert knowledge around maintenance and operation, but perhaps just as important you’ll have insight into the business development of our busy plant and HGV rental enterprise. |
Early Years Room Leaders x 2
Start Date: Spring 2012
Duration: 6 months

Primary School Teachers

You will be an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher, capable of rising to the challenge of few facilities and up to 125 children in each class. |

For many of these positions Krizevac Project is able to cover expenses in terms of flights, visas, insurance, accommodation and board for the duration of the placement. For some positions we will ask you to undertake fund raising to cover these costs, this ensures we direct our funding to the project beneficiaries where it is needed most. Krizevac Project aims to house volunteers in basic but private and secure accommodation. This may be in staff housing throughout the community or in our ‘volunteer village’ a mixture of staff and volunteers housing, where they also enjoy the use of a gym and a swimming pool. Volunteers will be provided with the basic necessities to self-cater and care for themselves independently, although often there will be a group of international volunteers sharing facilities at the Mitsidi Volunteers Village; communal mealtimes are a good opportunity to debrief after a hard day at work. Beds, bedding and bed nets are all provided. All houses have water and electricity, although services fluctuate and can be inconsistent.
We ask that all volunteers:
HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE
Krizevac encourages volunteers to be enthusiastic about whatever work needs to be done, at any time.
BE FLEXIBLE
Volunteers need to be prepared to adjust as needed, including in the areas of working, living, traveling, dietary issues, and interacting with the host organization.
HAVE THE NECESSARY PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES
No matter how great volunteer intentions, their body may not be willing to accommodate the task at hand. Volunteers must be sure they are able to perform duties that compliment a given project’s objectives.
When you arrive in Malawi, you’ll meet the local team as well as your line manager, they’ll all help you settle in and give you an induction so that you know how you fit in. It’s hard work, occasionally frustrating but for joyful volunteers who want to experience something new as well as give something back this can be a life changing experience.
Paula Hodson volunteered along with three colleagues, all education and early years specialists in May 2009.
"The time I spent in Chilomoni is one of the highlights of my life. I loved the friendliness of the people, the smell of the charcoal burning and the beautiful hills in the distance. I can't hear the phrase 'How are you?' without thinking of the children calling it out on our way to the school and I can't see a pair of flip-flops without thinking of the boy wearing one black flip - flop and one red one - of different sizes.
I was inspired by the dedication of Malawians, such as Alfred Chirombo, (the head teacher at St James), who were working to improve the lives of children under what
we would describe in England as impossible conditions. I hope that we helped the teachers to feel valued for the work they were doing. I learned much from working with the teachers in the school and fellow volunteers from Staffordshire, -including seeing the influence of different perspectives and core values on the way learning tasks were presented.
I have returned to England far more reflective about the challenges of helping a nation to develop and, indeed, far more reflective about the way I do my own job".
