June 2009 graduates from Beehive Centre For Social Enterprise
Krizevac Project would like to give most sincere thanks to all of the 2009 Malawi volunteers. It was only our first year of hosting the volunteering placements, 19 international volunteers, gave their time for free to help make a difference in Malawi. They are flying home for Christmas and to return to their ‘real lives’, all that is except for James and Gemma, who loved their time in Malawi so much they have decided to make their permanent home in the beautiful ‘warm heart of Africa’. Volunteering for Krizevac Project has also meant a huge change for Zoe who will be joining us as a full time member of the team here in the UK.
This autumn has seen the creation of two brand new social-enterprises for Beehive. Huge thanks to Jo for start BeeBooks, a book shop and exchange. It’s created a new job and means that the whole community of Chilomoni can afford to access books for the first time. Please do keep up with the book donations! The second new enterprise took us all by surprise, Gemma has started a beauty therapist training school within Beehive; she is a trained therapist and successful business woman herself, so Gemma is just the right person to help women in Chilomoni to gain skills so they can start their own businesses. The idea for BeeBeauty was first thought of by the year nine students at Chase Terrace Technology College when they took part in a Krizevac Enterprise Day, please phone to find out how your school can access these enterprise activities, it could be that your students get to see their ideas transformed into reality in Malawi.

Recruitment of volunteers for 2010 is going really well and we’ll post some updates early in the new year to let you know how all the new recruits are getting on. Check out the volunteers page to see details of vacancies.
Lastly huge thanks to Emily Clarke for organising the collection of hundreds of wonderful filled pencil cases for the children at St James primary school, Chilomoni. It was a fantastic day when they were given out, the smiles on the children’s faces say it all!
