Krizevac Project, UK registered charity number 1115608, established by a group of volunteers committed to making a difference and ending poverty.
Our board of trustees brings skills from the world of business, education and the voluntary sector to ensure that Krizevac Project achieves real results for people suffering from extreme poverty.
Krizevac was registered in 2006 and since this time the charity has grown through the tireless efforts of a number of dedicated and inspirational volunteers. The faith of these volunteers has ensured the charity has grown from foundations rooted in the Catholic Church so that now we reach out to people of all faiths and no faith to ensure that we meet the needs of all who need help the most.
Krizevac has supported projects focused on achieving change for one particular township in Malawi. Chilomoni is a densely packed urban area, a microcosm of every factor that influences poverty. Rapid urban growth, little employment, high levels of HIV/AIDS, few opportunities for learning and training and poor infrastructure are all immediately noticeable in this poor but peaceful community.
Krizevac has funded projects aimed at impacting on each of these elements. We began by fulfilling the townships request for a Church; this gained a huge following of local support. In 2006 we also built St James Primary school which has capacity for 2000 children, and we work with Mary’s Meals, a partner project to ensure that every child gets a meal everyday. We are now working closely with the school to help improve standards and opportunities.
A further project initiated by Krizevac, Beehive Centre for Social Enterprise, is helping to meet the economic needs of adults in Chilomoni. This is an exciting and dynamic project, creating opportunities for training, employment and social enterprise. Locals can train in a whole range of skills from tailoring to PC engineering and either find
work in Beehive or be helped into self employment. We aim to attract successful businesses to establish themselves as social enterprises to further the opportunities
for employment.
Building work has been a major focus throughout 2008 and continues into 2009. We are helping to create quality training facilities, staff housing and volunteers’ accommodation and we have invested in an environmentally friendly hydra-form block making system which has created even more local jobs. The building work will continue and Krizevac aims to build a children’s centre that will help Chilomoni’s youngest residents have the best possible start in life.
